Fall Inspired “Moms’ Night Out” at LongHorn Steakhouse

What do two sisters do when both their hubbies are out-of-town? Well, they turn off their ovens, pack-up the kids and mosey on over to the LongHorn Steakhouse for a fall inspired dinner. A dinner, I might add, that someone else gets to make…wahoo!

LongHorn Steakhouse is known for its fresh steaks, obviously, but they have so much more. Their new Fall Peak Season Menu features autumn inspired dishes made with ingredients like seasonal beer, apples, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, mushrooms and pumpkin. Also, for a short time, the Chef’s Showcase Menu is featuring a new Porcini Portabella Ribeye and a new Pork Osso Buco. Is your mouth watering yet?

Let’s get this party started. While we were waiting to be seated, my sister bought us each a glass of wine. She was very impressed with their wine list. They had one of her favorites, a Malbec. As we sipped our wine, the boys had a great time talking to each other and reconnecting…NOT (see picture). Don’t worry, all electronics were put away during dinner.

Our taste bud extravaganza began with the Oktoberfest Pretzel Sticks. These were a big hit with the kiddos and moms! The warm pretzels were served with Sam Adams® beer cheese and bacon honey mustard dips. They went really fast.

After our humble house salads with too many croutons, our main entrees were severed. My sister ordered the Napa Grilled Chicken off the regular menu — tender chicken breasts topped with artichoke hearts, portabella mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and a white wine herb sauce. I ordered the new Porcini Portabella Ribeye off the Chef Showcase menu. It is a Ribeye rubbed with porcini dust, brushed with balsamic butter sauce and topped with a cedar-grilled portabella mushroom. Holy guacamole, both of these were delicious! My steak was so tender and seasoned perfectly. My sister really enjoyed her herb-infused chicken.

Both of us ordered the Brussels Sprouts Au Gratin as a side. This dish consists of roasted Brussels sprouts and bacon in a four-cheese cream sauce topped with provolone and parmesan bread crumbs. We love Brussels sprouts, in fact, my sister is well known for her Brussels sprouts in our family. LongHorn’s Brussels Sprouts Au Gratin was tasty, but a bit dry. If the cheese sauce could have been creamier it would have pulled the dish together better.

One of the best things about LongHorn Steakhouse was their service. They were super friendly, attentive and wonderful with our kids. They have a good kids menu (12 and under) and even gave the kids two choices of macaroni and cheese–Kraft Mac & Cheese (for the picky eater) or Steakhouse Mac & Cheese (for the more adventurous eater).

Speaking of being picky, my kids are very picky, but for some reason they love anything with pumpkin in it. With that in mind, we had to end our evening with a Pumpkin Spice Lava Cake–a warm pumpkin spice cake filled with a cream cheese icing and drizzled with bourbon-caramel sauce and candied pecans. It was fantastic and disappeared faster than the pretzel sticks!

I don’t know if the LongHorn Steakhouse will ever be the same after our visit, but it was sure delicious and so worth not having to cook (or do dishes).
